“Currents” brings together a film essay and two photography projects, collectively examining how history permeates daily life and shapes the concept of “home.”
• Silent Orange (2025) by Matthias Leupold 🎥: Follows the daily life of a family who lost 12 children to Dioxin. This virtually wordless film, captured with a stationary camera, focuses on mundane moments and the profound question: How do the living carry on when faced with a tragedy not of their choosing?
• Mưa/Rain series (2016–17) by Nguyễn Ngọc Hải 🌧️: Captures the rhythm of life in Saigon during the rain—a space where childhood memories and the present intersect.
• Traces of Rice (2020–) by Phương Hoàng 🌾: Expands the narrative into Vietnamese migration history, beginning with the forced labor of 18,442 individuals in Southern France (1939–1954), and exploring how that past continues to impact many Vietnamese families today.
🥰 The Goethe-Institut in HCMC and the three photographers/filmmakers cordially invite you to visit the exhibition.
